Do you want to work for an organisation that makes a difference every day to people from all backgrounds?
The people who turn to Citizens Advice need help to overcome obstacles in their lives – such as debt, eviction, or problems at work – and you can play a key role in helping them get the support they need quickly, easily, and effectively.
The Role
As our Welsh Language Officer, you will be an integral member of Citizens Advice Wales, part of our Partnerships and Advocacy Directorate, and will play a key role in shaping the charity’s Welsh Language Strategy.
The role includes influencing national teams, supporting local Citizens Advice offices in Wales, representing Citizens Advice within Welsh-language networks, and identifying opportunities to improve access and engagement for clients and colleagues in Wales.
A key aspect of the role involves strategic communication and engagement with senior leaders at Citizens Advice and with stakeholders across Wales, including Welsh Government. You will also work in partnership with the Welsh Language Commissioner’s office to deliver the Cynnig Cymraeg (Welsh Offer) for Citizens Advice and promote the "Cymraeg Clir" (Clear Welsh) approach.
Working closely with the Citizens Advice Wales Director and the Wales Advisory Group, you will shape our Welsh Language Strategy and Active Offer, manage translation services and budgets, provide line management to the Welsh Translator, and ensure high-quality Welsh content across different platforms.
How to Apply
To apply, please submit an anonymous CV and an anonymous cover letter. Your cover letter should be no more than one page long and should outline why you would be a good fit for the role.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and is recognised as central to everything we do.
At the heart of our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a matter of social justice – a principle that underpins all of our EDI work. We particularly welcome applications from people who are underrepresented within our organisation and sector – people of colour, LGBTQ+ people, and disabled people.
We offer interviews to disabled candidates who indicate they wish to be considered under our Disability Confident Interview Commitment if they meet our selection criteria.
Some of our roles attract a high number of applications. Where it is not practical or appropriate, we may limit the number of interviews offered to both disabled and non-disabled candidates. Reasonable adjustments will be provided where needed. We follow the social model of disability.
We are a flexible employer, so this role may suit anyone who prefers flexible arrangements to support their work/life balance. Many of our colleagues spend the majority of their time working remotely.
Although we prefer a blended approach combining a local office (where one is near you) and home working, we are open to flexibility regarding location. Occasionally, a role may require you to be based in a specific location – if so, this will be made clear in the advert or job description. This can be discussed further during the interview.
Citizens Advice operates from offices across Wales and England, with four regional offices based in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, and Leeds. All successful applicants must be based in Wales or England.
Our commitment to staff wellbeing is reflected in the fact that we received the Gold Award in the Health and Wellbeing category, alongside the Overall Winners award at the Employee Experience Awards 2022.
Please note Citizens Advice is not a sponsoring organisation. Therefore, the successful applicant must already have the right to work in the UK or be able to secure this independently.
We have been recognised as the top charity employer in the Third Sector Employer Index, highlighting Citizens Advice not only as an organisation that prioritises the people it serves but also as one that values the wellbeing of its employees.
If a high number of applications are received, we reserve the right to close the application process early.
This vacancy closes for applications at 23:59 on the closing date.
