Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, oversees a wide range of services including phones, broadband, TV, radio, postal services, and wireless devices. Their mission is to keep the UK connected and make the online world safer. 

They are now seeking a dynamic leader to establish and manage Ofcom's Welsh Language Unit. This role, based in Cardiff with flexible working options available, will ensure Ofcom's compliance with Welsh language standards and promote the use of Welsh within the organisation. The Head of Welsh Language Unit will be responsible for devising, maintaining, and communicating policies and procedures to ensure adherence to Welsh language standards. They will set up and coordinate the Welsh Language Unit, developing efficient internal systems and processes. Additionally, they will implement reporting processes to encourage continuous improvement based on data-driven insights.

The successful candidate will develop strategies to promote the Welsh Language Unit and its work across Ofcom, oversee procurement, and manage relationships with external suppliers of Welsh language services. They will also manage the unit's budget, ensuring effective use of resources, and lead and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching and support. Collaboration with Ofcom's digital and communication teams, as well as managing relationships with the Welsh Language Commissioner, will be key aspects of the role.

The ideal candidate will have extensive leadership and people management experience, a proven track record in achieving goals through effective team management, and in-depth knowledge of Welsh language standards and regulatory experience. 

Welsh language proficiency is an essential requirement for this position.
