Overview:
You’ll join a small and multi-skilled Communications team which is growing to support new areas of work. Between us, we cover the Government Communication Service disciplines which includes digital communications, and lead on the Welsh language strategy for the organisation.
Some of our main areas of work include:
· Engaging with visitor accommodation providers as we prepare to deliver the services to implement the Visitor Accommodation (Register and Levy) Etc. (Wales) Bill
· Helping people to pay the right tax at the right time. You’ll be working with our operational delivery team to help us communicate Our Approach – a supportive way to manage tax
· As a growing organisation, help develop a strong employee brand for the WRA, considering the best approaches to use communications to support the recruitment strategy aimed at attracting the best talent
As our Digital Communications Officer, you'll play a vital role in strengthening the WRA's online presence as we expand our digital communications capabilities. In an increasingly digital-first environment, you'll create, deliver and evaluate engaging bilingual content that connects with our diverse audiences across Wales.
You'll join us at an exciting time as we develop new services and reach new audiences, working to:
Create compelling, accessible and inclusive bilingual content that increases audience engagement across our digital platforms
Support the implementation of communication activities outlined in our OASIS communication plans
Monitor and evaluate digital channel performance, using insights to continuously improve content
Maintain our reputation through consistent, professional communications that follow government accessibility standards and WRA brand guidelines
Travel across Wales to capture authentic content that reflects our work and supports our priorities
Stay informed about emerging digital trends to identify new engagement opportunities
You'll make day-to-day decisions about content within established guidelines, escalating more complex issues to your line manager.
Your work will directly impact how effectively we communicate with and influence our stakeholders, ensuring our messages are timely, accessible and impactful across our digital channels.

Your role will form part of the Government Communications Service profession. You’ll be supported in your professional development through a range of opportunities, including: qualifications, coaching and joining networks at Welsh Government and other Governments in the UK.

Main Tasks
Content creation
· Create, edit and publish high-quality bilingual content across multiple platforms, meeting standards on style, tone of voice and publishing.
· Develop engaging visual assets using a range of tools including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
· Supporting the storyboarding, shooting, editing and optimising of video content
· Editing photography and designing written content.
· Maintain content calendars and schedule digital communications to ensure consistent audience engagement
· Ensure all digital content meets both accessibility standards and Welsh language standards
Audience engagement and monitoring
· Conduct regular social media listening to identify trends, audience sentiment, and emerging topics relevant to WRA activities
· Monitor social media channels to identify engagement opportunities and potential issues
· Support the team with media monitoring activities, tracking coverage of WRA and tax-related stories
· Monitor and evaluate digital channel performance in line with the GCS Evaluation Cycle, helping to optimise content and improve audience engagement
· Contribute to social media community management, responding to queries within established guidelines
· Monitor shared inboxes and respond to queries, escalating to the Senior Communications and Campaigns Manager where necessary
Campaign support
Support the development of digital campaigns aligned with the WRA's objectives
Work with subject matter experts to develop accurate and engaging content
Assist with implementing digital activities outlined in OASIS communications plans
Travel across Wales to capture authentic content for digital channels, working to pre-approved itineraries
Team Collaboration
Support the Welsh Language and Internal Communications Manager with Welsh language standards compliance
Liaise with teams across the organisation to develop content that communicates key initiatives effectively
Keep up to date with digital communication trends and best practices to suggest improvements
Help support on contract management, including procurement frameworks and financial management of day-to-day costings
Be part of the team on call rotation covering press and social media management out-of-hours, as required
Participate in wider networks on behalf of the Communications team and the WRA to ensure we’re up to date with best practice
