Calon, the non-fiction imprint from University of Wales Press, seeks a Publisher to lead its successful programme. Recently shortlisted for the Bookseller’s Startup of the Year, the Publisher will continue Calon’s momentum by commissioning exciting new books for the imprint.
The Publisher will bring their trade market knowledge and experience to bear on this exciting new chapter for Calon. As well as pro-actively seeking and responsively assessing new book proposals, they will work closely with authors to shape and develop manuscripts into excellent books. Reporting into the Director, the Publisher will work closely with all departments at the Press to ensure that books are commercially focussed, and are delivered within Calon’s quality, schedule and budget requirements.
The ideal candidate is dynamic, creative and committed to making a success of this exciting opportunity. They will have solid experience in commissioning for a non-fiction market, able to spot and maximise new book opportunities, and creatively develop content with an international audience in mind. Prospective candidates should have excellent author care and project management skills, be able to confidently manage the variety of the role, and be passionate about nurturing strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external colleagues.
The successful candidate will pro-actively share their trade market knowledge and insight with colleagues across the Press. Relevant author and external partner networks, and a passion for Welsh interest, are preferred.

The role is full-time and based in the prestigious Cardiff city centre University Registry building, but flexibility is possible for the right candidate.
The salary is £36,000 per annum for a full time post dependent on experience, with a generous holiday allowance of 25 days plus 8 statutory and 7 customary days per annum, pro rata. The post holder will be eligible to join the University pension scheme.
